Southern Searchers

Southern Searchers is a quarterly publication of the Decatur County Genealogical Society, Inc., consisting of materials submitted by both members and non-members of the Society. The Bainbridge Library keeps past issues in two Hollinger boxes: the older issues in the Southwest Georgia Reading Room (#294) and the current year's issues in office #285.

The current Table of Contents, compiled by Ji'Aire Dixon and other members of the Bainbridge Library staff, covers issues published from August 2000 to February 2017 (with the exception of February 2015 and October 2016).

Walter E. Cox Memorial Political Archive

Walter Eugene Cox (September 12, 1928-February 22, 1989) served as a Bainbridge City Councilman from 1968 to 1969, the Mayor of Bainbridge from 1970 to 1974, and Seminole and Decatur Counties' State Representative in the Georgia General Assembly from 1975 to 1989.

Located in a four-drawer file cabinet in Archives (Room #286), the Walter E. Cox Memorial Political Archive consists of 1,635 entries (5,783 pages). Spanning from February 13, 1956, to January 1, 1993, document types include (but are not limited to) newspaper clippings, legislative bills, cards, notes, resolutions, speeches, memos, maps, letters, brochures, roll calls, and reports both to and from Cox (donated by his family to Bainbridge [State] College Library).

Started on June 17, 2008, and completed on December 28, 2009, by Kaye C. Guterman and Patrick A. Collins, the chronological table of contents for the Cox Political Archive is available in a variety of formats. A 49-page master notebook, along with a CD-R containing the same content, is available behind the library's circulation desk. The table of contents can also be downloaded for viewing as either a Microsoft Access database or a Microsoft Word document. Any member of the library staff can unlock the file cabinet in Archives once a patron has determined which document(s) he or she would like to view.
